“For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” James 1:3
Trouble normally brings a testing of our faith. During times of trouble, we have to decide whether or not we truly trust God? We have to resolve whether or not we believe that God will take care of us? James tells us that it is during such times of testing and examination that our faith has a chance to grow and develop.
As we read through the Bible, we see many men and women of God who had great faith. How did they receive such faith? Did God bless them with an extra-ordinary amount the moment they accepted Him as their Savior, or did He do something to help their faith develop? If you will study their lives very carefully, you will see that many of them faced trials and testings along the way.
With each difficulty came the temptation to doubt God. But with each difficulty also came the opportunity to trust God. Those who put their faith in God saw Him move, and with each miraculous movement, their faith grew stronger. This is why James tells us to rejoice whenever trouble comes our way. We may not rejoice over the difficulty we’re experiencing, but we can rejoice over what the difficulty can bring. Allow your tests to make you better and not bitter." So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” (James 1:4).

Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrew 10:35-36).
